Too Much Football?

So I'm trying to see what else is happening in the sports world other than Mark Buehrle's perfect game. Which by the way, I congratulate Buehrle on. He's an underrated pitcher who's been having a great season before the perfect game today. Big props also are needed for Dewayne Wise. Buehrle owes Wise everything after saving the perfect game with the play of the year.

Anyways, I'm surfing ESPN to get my hourly fix and I see that t he NFL Draft is expanding to 3 days. Before clicking on the story, I'm thinking to myself that they're actually going to increase the amount of rounds. The draft is excruciatingly long as it is. The teams on top of the draft board know who they're going to draft. The fans know who's going to be drafted. No reason why the first round needs to be 10 minutes long. If teams want to set up a trade, they have plenty of time before the draft to talk things out. I think 7 minutes are enough to hammer out details. A 7 minute time limit per pick in the first round works out. I had half a mind to personally call up Commissioner Goodell and complain the hell out of him. I was ready to start a Facebook group, write multiple posts on Serious Intertainment and Tha Sports Corna, make trending topics on Twitter, the whole nine yards. Keep in mind, all this is going through my mind before actually clicking on the link.

Then I actually click on the link and see the story.

Excerpt from ESPN.com "Commissioner Roger Goodell notified teams Thursday that the draft will be spread over three days in 2010, running Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24.

In addition, the first round will start in prime time at 7:30 p.m. ET
." The same story continues to say that the second and third rounds will be held on Friday, while the fourth through seventh rounds are for Saturday.

This isn't that bad of an idea actually. I can barely watch the entire first round, let alone the rest of the draft. Spreading the draft out like this is like having an extended bathroom break in between the different sections of the draft. This country as a whole doesn't have the best attention span. If you really expect for NFL fans to watch 2 full days on the NFL draft continuously, you have another thing coming. It's easier on the brain to watch three 3-hour chunks of the Draft than serving us two 6-8 hour servings. Ever since coming into the league, the Commish has been bring switching things up in the NFL. And it's been working. Keep up the good work.
