You Guys Need To Chill

So by now everyone knows that the Lions beat the Redskins, ending Detroit's 19-game losing streak. So the Redskins fans of the world are crying
their eyes out, ashamed they follow what people now consider "The Worst Team in the NFL".

Alright 'Skins fans, let's get something straight: losing to the Lions doesn't really mean much, regardless if you won, you still kinda suck. The team was a field goal away from being 0-3.

C'mon, let's be real here. The wide receivers have been fairly inconsistent. Don't give me none of that "Santana Moss crushed Detroit and had 178 receiving yards" crap. I didn't say they can't have their moments, I'm just saying they aren't the most reliable group of guys. Just be thankful they aren't at Ted Ginn, Jr. level.

Portis hasn't been getting the job done either. In three games, the most he rushed for in a single game was 79 yards. Against the Rams. Let's be honest, their D is weak. Without going on ESPN or whatever, not many people could name a single dude from the defense. I struggled to remember Chris Long. That's not gonna cut it.
And the Lions basically shut down Portis in that game. 42 yards on the ground. Really?

Your defense has 4 sacks and 1 pick. Washington faced Jake Delhomme Version 2 in Marc Bulger and a overrated rookie QB. Both teams with weak offensive lines.

No.

By the way, firing Jim Zorn wouldn't solve the problem. The team has made many coaching changes through the years recently, it hasn't done much to help the team's success. Don't blame Zorn too much. And plus, at the pro level, the job of a coach is sometimes overrated. At this point, it's mostly a player issue.

Only Jason Campbell has been resembling anything of success on the team. With a better receiving core, he'd probably have more touchdowns. His only mistake is that he holds on to the ball too long. Of the two 'Skins games I've seen, the O-lines gives Campbell a decent amount of time to throw. If receivers aren't open, he has to be more proactive.

The Lions are a better team than people are giving them credit. They aren't a good team. Not by a long shot, but they've improved. Although the changes in the coaching staff or personnel probably haven't done much of a difference, except firing Matt Millen, the Lions have something to prove: Not to be the league's laughing stock. After an offseason to let things sink in, they realize the shame and despair that goes with being winless.

Detroit doesn't have much to look forward to. Financial problems have decimated their hope. The citizens of Detroit have nothing to look forward to. Let them have this win. They need it.

Back from Hiatus

I'd like to take this time to apologize to our four and a half regular readers of the blog for not keeping up with it and well, to be honest, being lazy with it. I promise to be more consistent with Tha Sports Corna, starting now.

I'd also like to announce the launching of a Sports Corna Twitter Account. Here at Tha Sports Corna, we adapt to all forms of communications and websites on the interwebs. We also have a new email account thasportscorna@gmail.com Feel free to tweet and/or email us with any comments and questions. Who knows, enough questions and what not and we'll have to jock Bill Simmons' idea and have our own Mailbag.

With that out of the way...ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages. I just have one question. Are you ready? Internet, I said, ARE YOU REEEEAAAADDDDY?!?!?!?!?!

Let's start the re-launching of Tha Sports Corna with last night's Monday Night Football. Colts vs. Dolphins. Land Shark Stadium.

Let's be honest here, both teams' defenses were not impressive at all. Not only did Miami show-off the now legendary Wildcat offense, but the Colts had no idea how to even think about stopping it, let alone a standard run formation. At the same time, the Miami defense were just mere obstacles the Colts had to hop over to get touchdowns. First play of the game: Colts score on a 80 yard pass to Dallas Clark. The Colts didn't need to have the ball for an extended time, because they just needed a few plays tops to score.

The Dolphins' offense was close to perfect last night. Then Miami reminded us who they had behind center: Chad Pennington.

Pennington isn't a horrible quarterback. He's one of the most accurate passers in the league. Problem is that his accuracy doesn't extend beyond 30 yards. Not to pile on Chad but he doesn't exactly possess leadership qualities. And in the off-chance that he does; he doesn't exactly make them public, now does he?

The Dolphins didn't choke or anything. They played a great game for all 60 minutes. Sure they could have squeezed more time out of the clock in their last scoring drive, and sure they had some minor time management issues in the last drive of the game, but that's because Indy had Miami right were they wanted them. No one could have seriously though Chad Pennington could have engineered a game winning drive. It's just not in him. As great as the Dolphins' run scheme was, it's close to impossible to win a football game if you're dependent on the running game if you're down to one possession. You need some sort of reliable passing game in a two minute drill.

I don't blame Ted Ginn Jr. for the loss (although it was his ball to catch, I mean he did have BOTH hands on the ball).

The thing with Miami's offensive scheme is that it doesn't match up. You have a speed receiver in Ginn. He can spread out a defense with his God-given agility. The thing is, you can't do that when your quarterback doesn't have the arm strength to throw a ball beyond 10 yards. Greg Carmarillo isn't gonna cut it either. TE Anthony Fasano is a nice option. He did have a decent breakout year in 2008. But there are still some question marks about him.

That being said. The Colts aren't completely washed-up. Miami is a draft away from contending in the AFC. And oh yeah, Plax is in jail.

THIS BLOG AIN'T DEAD, BITCHES.

Ok, less talk football, K? K.

Where the fuck did the Broncos D come from? Amirite? Odom has 7 sacks so far this year and a strong pass rush only makes the legendary secondary's job that much easier.

Where the fuck did the 49ers come from? Ok, we knew Gore was a stud, but who thought that they'd be able to win games?

As of now, the best players in each position (as far as I'm concerned) are

QB - Drew Brees
RB - Chris Johnson (AP fumbles, CJ amazes)
WR - Andre Johnson (arguable, I know. But Andre doesn't have the QB that Colston or Fitzgerald have)
TE - Tony Gonzalez
CB - Charles Woodson
LB - Ray Lewis
DL - Antwan Odom

Team Defense - Jets
Team Offense - Saints
